Go karting has been around since the 1950s. Art Ingels is believed to have built the first motorized go kart in 1956. Even though they are small, some high performance go karts can reach speeds in excess of 150 miles per hour. While most serious go karts utilize gasoline engines, a newer breed of kart now used electric engines. Current electric models are strictly for recreation purposes and are not normally used for racing, other than on small tracks.
